|October 08, 2025
In a significant shift in the enforcement of GST laws, the government has issued new guidelines restricting the registration of FIRs and investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in cases involving fake GST bills.
-
As per the order signed by Additional Director Mandeep Kumar Batish of the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI), FIRs can no longer be registered at police stations under IPC BNS sections without prior approval from the Principal Director General of DGGI. Similarly, the ED cannot independently initiate investigations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in such cases.
