18 dead, 24 missing in Basilan waters
A roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel bound for Jolo, Sulu, carrying more than 350 people, sank off Basilan early Monday morning, January 26, leaving at least 18 dead and 24 others missing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
The M/VTrisha Kerstin 3, operated by Aleson Shipping, went down around 1:50 a.m. about 2.75 nautical miles northeast of Baluk-Baluk Island.
Authorities said the vessel was carrying 359 individuals-332 passengers and 27 crewmembersbased on the passenger manifest.
