Nouri bags blitz gold in ASEAN tilt

FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri downed Russian International Master Miroslav Vlasenko in 61 moves of a Nimzovich Defense to rule the open section's blitz event of the 6th ASEAN Individual Chess Championships Gov. Henry Oaminal Cup at the Asenso Misamis Occidental Resort and Aquamarine Park in Ozamiz over the weekend.

Nouri, the reigning national juniors champion who will turn 20 next month, actually ended up tied for first with Grandmaster Daniel Quizon with identical eight points.

Nouri, however, took the title due to higher tiebreak points.
