A VILLAGE close to Guildford has allegedly had its Christmas tree vandalised during the days of its popular community carol concert.
-
Leaving residents “extremely distressed”, according to the parish council, the tree was “something special for the village”.
Residents of Wood Street Village had their Christmas spirit dampened over the weekend after tree lights were pulled off and left on the ground, it was reported.
According to the clerk for Worplesdon Parish Council, the local authority in the area, the alleged vandalism took place on Saturday evening (December 13), some time after what had been a “very successful and well-attended” community carol concert on Wood Street Village Green earlier that afternoon.
Surrey Police responded to the reports, telling the Advertiser that all available lines of enquiry are “currently being reviewed”, and “if appropriate” they will be followed up. The forces asked those who saw what happened, or have any information which could assist their enquiries, to contact the force.
Gaynor White, the clerk to the parish council, called the incident “deeply disappointing” and suggesting that it is “regrettable that the actions of a small minority can affect so many”.
