PBA World Singles qualifier Lloyd Milligan

The South Shields Vipers won a twice, while Houghton won once.

In the Men's Denny Cup, Vipers eased past West Denton 86-65, Ian McIntosh beat Herbie Blacklock 25-8, while there was a rare home loss for David Bolt 17-14 to Clive Knott.

At West Denton, Vipers' Gary Farquhar went down 27-14 to Stephen Wood, but the overall result was decided on the remaining rink skipped by Paul Hartley, who ran out a 33-13 winner.

The Vipers will face Cumbria next and will be looking to avenge last year's loss.

After losing to the Vipers in the Denny Cup first round, Houghton slipped into the Denny Plate and cruised to a 92-33 win over The Parks. At Houghton, Colin Watson's rink of Colin Milburn, Chris Blake and Gary McPheators romped to a 34-6 win, the other rink skipped by Richie Mckie got home 29-17.

Over at North Tyneside, Frankie Froud won 19-8 and David Wright won 16-10. In the next round, Gateshead will provide the opposition after they beat Stanley.

It was a tough day in the Ladies Yetton Trophy and Plate. In the Trophy, the Vipers were beaten 83-60 by Cumbria as the only Shields win came from Marion Paton's 19-18 success over Lesley Waddington.

Cumbria will face Durham next, who beat Gateshead 88-42.

In the Yetton Plate, Houghton's hopes were ended with a 72-49 loss to Hartlepool.
