Sasol's new turbine tech improves nitrogen emissions

Carbon emissions cut a boon for certain health issues

Sasol has completed a significant rehabilitation of its combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) generation plant at its Secunda operations.

Secunda is known as the world's largest single-point emitter of greenhouse gases but is also an economic anchor. The upgrade, while modest in scale, marks an important milestone in the company's efforts to cut operational emissions and improve efficiency within its power generation segment.

The project involved the modernisation of two General Electric (GE) gas turbines using GE Vernova's DLN1+ (dry and low nitrogen oxide) combustor technology and a new fuel gas module. The technology enables “dry combustion”, eliminating the use of water for nitrogen oxide dilution and improving combustion efficiency.
