SOUTH Shields manager Ian Watson praised the professional approach of his players after they saw off a dogged Dunston UTS side to reach the FA Trophy third round.
After falling behind to a Dan Wilson penalty, braces from Lennon Wheeldon and Paul Blackett put the Mariners in control before former Dunston midfielder Will Jenkins doubled the lead after the interval.
Josh Donaldson got a goal back for the visitors with ten minutes remaining but another former Dunston man had the final say as Cedwyn Scott rounded off the scoring in injury-time.
Speaking after the win, Mariners boss Watson told the Sunday Sun: “We've done well to come through that one in the manner we did because Dunston are a good side at their level and they gave us some really difficult moments.
“We knew what we were up against and we needed to about the game ina really professional manner.
“We went behind to the penalty against the run of play but we got back into it and we dealt with it to get awin I thought we deserved”
After a tight and tense opening 15 minutes, it was the visitors that secured a shock lead as midfielder David Robinson won his side a penalty after he was brought down by Mariners goalkeeper Tom Watson.
Wilson stepped up to take the spot-kick and kept his cool to send the on-loan Wigan Athletic youngster the wrong way before taking the acclaim of a boisterous away support.
