Storming second half earns derby win

MANCHESTER United made a winning start under Michael Carrick with a convincing 2-0 win over title-chasing rivals Manchester City at a raucous Old Trafford.

Second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu secured a deserved triumph for a rejuvenated Red Devils side on Saturday, inflicting further damage to City’s hopes of catching Premier League leaders Arsenal.

United were a side far removed from the stale outfit they had become under Ruben Amorim, who was sacked as head coach last week with Carrick being appointed as interim boss on Tuesday.

‘The hosts were unfortunate not to lead at halftime after Harry Maguire headed against the bar and Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes were denied by tight offside calls.
