'What we've done to the deep ocean floor is unspeakably awful'

SIR David Attenborough and the Prince of Wales are warning of the “unspeakably awful” damage being done to the ocean floor.

The pair chatted about the importance of protecting the seas in a video marking World Ocean Day today.

Sir David's new documentary Ocean is also out on streaming platforms today, and shows the devastation caused by bottom-trawl fishing.

The practice involves dragging giant nets across the sea bed, destroying coral, seagrass and other precious life.

Speaking after his documentary's premiere at London's Royal Festival Hall, the 99-year-old told William, 42: “The awful thing is, it is hidden from you and from me and most people.
