GRAN PAYS EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE TO DANIEL, 16

THE grandmother of a teenager who died in a lake at a Birmingham beauty spot has paid tribute to her 'beautiful grandson'.

Daniel Drewitt, 16, died after getting into difficulties at Sutton Park's Powell's Pool in Sutton Coldfield on Thursday evening.

Despite a major emergency response, including specialist water rescue crews, nothing could be done to save him and his body was recovered shortly after 10pm.

Flowers and a Birmingham City football shirt have been laid besides Powell's Pool, close to the Miller & Carter restaurant.

Daniel's grandma, Lilian Swann, commented on a Facebook post by Daniel's football team, Northfield Town FC: "That's our beautiful grandson who had his whole life ahead of him we will never recover from this.

"Love you loads Daniel and miss you so much, Nan and grandad Roy xxx."

Lilian said she would be going to a church in Sutton Coldfield on Saturday to 'light a candle for our much-loved and beautiful grandson gone too soon'.

She was responding to a post by the football club which described him as a 'fantastic young man who always wore a smile on his face'.

The club posted on its social media channels: "RIP Daniel. One of our talented former junior players, Daniel Drewitt, passed away following a tragic accident at Sutton Park.
