Starmer hails 'significant step' to end war

KEIR Starmer has hailed Hamas' acceptance of a Gaza peace plan as a “significant step".

The PM said there was an “opportunity to end fighting” in the war-torn enclave after the militant group partially agreed to the US deal.

Hamas said it was willing to release Israeli hostages and hand over power to other Palestinians, but other aspects of the plan require further consultations.

US President Donald Trump has ordered Israel to stop bombarding Gaza in the wake of the development.

And though Israeli bombing of Gaza City has “significantly subsided”, at least five Palestinians were killed, a hospital official said yesterday.
