ARBROATH have urged fans to help identify two supporters who halted their opening-day clash with Ayr by throwing flares onto the Gayfield pitch.

Play in the 1-1 draw was suspended for several minutes, just after Jamie Murphy had given the visitors the lead, when two flares landed in the visitors' goalmouth.

The incident was captured live on BBC and in full view of SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster, who attended the match as part of Arbroath's League One flag day celebrations.

In a strongly worded statement on social media, the Angus side slammed the actions of those responsible.
