Askou eyes Cup glory as Charles-Cook cracker earns them date at Hampden
-
JENS BERTHEL ASKOU has a dream - and he took a step closer to realising it as Regan Charles-Cook fired Motherwell into the Premier Sports Cup semifinals.
The Steelmen have only won the League Cup once in their history way back in 1950-51 - but the Danish boss would love to deliver it to Fir Park again.
Askou said: “We always dream of winning. We dream of winning games because that will lead us to winning trophies.
“Everyone in football dreams, that’s why we're here.
“We want to take the next step, to be in the final takes one more win and we'll see who we have to face.
“There are really tough teams still in the competition but we will go all-in like we did today.
“This club has won before and we are hungry to do it again.”
Charles-Cook was the Motherwell hero with a screamer of a strike that proved the difference.
And Askou admitted the midfielder was delighted to get himself off the hook - after he had been denied earlier by Dimitar Mitov.
The Motherwell boss claimed:"We would have scored a lovely team goal in the first half and Cookie was frustrated with himself that he didn't finish it.
“We told him at halftime to keep going because there would be others and he needs to be ready to take them.
“It wasn't a massive chance but he turned it into a great goal.”
Well are unbeaten this season but all five Premiership games have been draws and Askou believes this win can have a spin-off effect in the league.
