NEIL LENNON has told fans to lay off the players after boos turned to cheers as Dunfermline booked their place in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals for the first time since 2009.

The Pars supporters made their feelings clear at halftime after League One strugglers Kelty frustrated the hosts in a dire opening 45 minutes.

But Dunfermline stepped it up after the break and Chris Kane sealed their spot in the last eight with a deadly double.

That was only after he was denied what he thought should have been the opener following a controversial goal-line call by the officials.

The striker's effort hit the underside of the bar and bounced up and hit the frame again before being eventually cleared by the defence.

Lennon said: "I questioned the character of the players this week and that was a difficult game for them.

"There was a lot of tension because we knew what's at stake at the end of it.

"I thought the second half performance was superb, we dominated the game and then we got the goals that were thoroughly justified. These aren't easy games.
