Bollan calls on leaky Light Blues to follow mantras from past

That was the bedrock of Rangers' domination of Scottish football in the 1990s as they surged to Nine in a Row on a solid foundation from the likes of Richard Gough, John Brown and Craig Moore.

Right now the old pre-match battle cry appears to have gone quiet in the Gers' dressing room.

Leaking goals like a broken tap has left Russell Martin's side reeling and the besieged boss struggling to defend his system of possession-based play.

The scale of the problem is three managers old. Rangers haven't kept a clean sheet away since December 8 last year - a rotten run of 22 games. Their worst sequence since the 1800s.

In the words of former Ibrox defender Gary Bollan: "That's astonishing."

Injuries meant Bollan's playing time at Ibrox was curtailed to little over 20 games after he made the move from Dundee United in 1995. But in his two-and-a-half seasons in Govan he saw Walter Smith's side sweep up back-to-back league and cup Doubles and complete the nine.

The 52-year-old - who went on to manage Livingston, Airdrie, Forfar and Clyde - had a closeup view back then of Gough, Brown, Moore, Lorenzo Amoruso and others perfecting the art of shutting up shop.
