Dowds nets clincher as banned Broonie sees Ayr hit fourth

AYR No.2 Steven Whittaker declared even a ban could not stop “passionate” boss Scott Brown roaring them back into the top four.

A red card in last week's loss at Partick Thistle meant the Somerset gaffer had to take up a seat in the stand.

He had a cracking vantage point as goals in each half from Ben Dempsey and Anton Dowds saw his Honest Men leapfrog Dunfermline into the last playoff place despite Lewis Vaughan's late counter.

Whittaker said: "Scott's a passionate manager so he was passing down plenty of advice from his seat in the stand!

"It was good to bounce back with a win. Sometimes you need to earn your luck in games and we did that a bit towards the end.
