Trump's new 15% tariffs as Davey calls for retaliation

DONALD Trump increased his global tariffs to 15% last night just hours after Sir Keir Starmer was challenged to sue the US President for $100billion for the damage his trade taxes have caused.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said the government should get tough with Mr Trump for the economic pain he has inflicted. It came a day after the US Supreme Court outlawed most of the reciprocal "emergency" global tariffs the White House announced last year.

Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social site last night that he will be raising the 10% worldwide tariff on countries, many of which have been "ripping the US off for decades, to the fully allowed, legally tested 15% level". He did so under a never-used law known as Section 122, which is part of the 1974 Trade Act and allows the levy to be in place for 150 days before Congress must step in.
