Trump claims ceasefire will start 'in days'

ISRAEL and Hamas could begin a ceasefire “within days”, Donald Trump has boasted.

The US President, buoyed by his success in Iran, is said to be keen to accelerate the end of the war, as he seeks to expand his signature Abraham Accords.

Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, a top aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is due to visit Washington this week.

"I think it's close," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked on Friday about a Gaza ceasefire. "I just spoke with some of the people involved. We think within the next week we're going to get a ceasefire."

Though not made public, existing plans are said to seek a 60-day break in the fighting, with around 10 of the remaining 20 Israeli hostages freed and exile for top Hamas officials.
