THE Lionesses roared into the World Cup semi-finals with a win over Colombia that received a royal seal of approval from the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Star striker Alessia Russo scored the deciding goal in the 2-1 comeback win in yesterday's quarter-final at Stadium Australia in Sydney.

Moments after the final whistle, a message posted on the Twitter account of the Prince and Princess of Wales said: "Bring on the semi-finals! A hard-fought win, well done Lionesses." England will face co-hosts Australia in the last four at the same venue on Wednesday at 11am UK time.

This will be the side's third semi-final in a row, leaving fans hoping they can reach the final for the first time and add the World Cup to the European trophy they lifted at Wembley last year.

After the tense quarter-final, played in front of a largely pro-Colombia crowd, Russo, 24, said she will relish being targeted by the Aussies next time.
