'Lammy must act to stop crime wave'

NEW Justice Secretary David Lammy should take immediate action to stop a “crime wave being unleashed” on Britain’s streets, his Tory opposite number has warned.

Robert Jenrick fears up to 43,000 criminals will escape a jail sentence as a result of Labour's plans set in motion by his predecessor, the new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

"Lammy has an opportunity to stop a crime wave being unleashed - or be remembered as the man who surrendered the Chagos islands and surrendered our streets to criminals," he said.
