Greggs price has slump and cost rises baked in

GREGGS served up a disappointing first-half trading update last week, as recent hot weather weighed on demand for flaky bakes.

Like-for-like sales growth has already slowed considerably in recent months and ground to a near standstill in June, leading Greggs to warn that operating profits could fall moderately this year.

The cost picture remains a key challenge too. Changes to company taxes and minimum wages came into effect in April and are set to rack up costs in the tens of millions. Managing costs over the rest of 2025 is going to be tough. Greggs needs to ensure price increases don’t exceed customer appetite.
