Euthanised Little Brak seal tests positive for rabies

The adult seal that was humanely euthanised at Little Brak River Beach on Friday 9 January has tested positive for rabies.

This was confirmed by Val Marsh, a committee member of the Stranded Animal Marine Rescue Team (Smart) in Mossel Bay.

Marsh told Mossel Bay Advertiser the rabies test, conducted by the state veterinarian for the Western Cape, had come back positive on Friday 16 January.

The seal was first spotted on the Little Brak River's banks on the morning of 9 January.
