Just Stop Oil gang's plan to cause chaos with airport protest
Stockport Express
|June 04, 2025
FOUR Just Stop Oil activists have been jailed following a foiled Gatley-based bid to launch an 'audacious' protest at Manchester Airport.
Daniel Knorr, 22, Leonorah Ward, 22, Indigo Rumbelow, 30, and Margaret Reid, 54, were arrested before they could carry out their plan.
They would have cut their way through the metal fencing at the southern end of the airport, before gluing themselves to the taxiways.
But police became aware of the plot by the environmental group, and they were arrested as they made their way to the airport in the early hours of August 5 last year.
The group were found with angle grinders, bolt cutters, superglue, sand and banners with slogans including 'oil kills!'
A judge said the action 'would have caused misery to thousands of people; had it gone ahead.
On Tuesday morning (May 27), all four were jailed.
Ward began shouting in the dock and holding up signs in orange card as she was being led down to start her sentence, saying: “Courts are complicit, billions will die without action.”
