VENABLES BACK ON EURO TRAIL

THE ageless Chris Venables sent Penybont back into Europe next season as he ended his personal and club goal drought in a 2-0 win over Haverfordwest County in the JD Cymru Premier Euro Playoff final.

The 40-year-old first played in Europe in 2011 and will be 41 by the time Penybont return for a third turn in four years in the Europa Conference League.

They join league champions The New Saints, runners-up Connah's Quay Nomads and Welsh Cup winners Caernarfon Town in representing Wales in the Uefa competitions.

Penybont came into the final showdown having not won at their DragonBet Stadium since November 15. That was nine games ago and they hadn’t scored in normal time in their last four matches.

But Venables has been there, done and seen it all and struck in the 16th minute to give the home side a vital lead.

It was a cross from Nathan Wood on the left flank that gave Mael Davies and then Ethan Cann the chance to win two headers, the last of which from Cann found Venables 10 yards out.
