AWOMAN “bludgeoned” her dog to death with a saucepan, a court has heard.

- JASON EVANS Court and crime reporter

Jordanna Wheeler repeatedly beat the pet about the head after getting home drunk from a party then passed out on the sofa.

Swansea Crown Court heard police later recovered the weapon which was badly deformed, a sign of the ferocity of the beating.

A judge told the 29-year-old defendant that the attack on the dog ‘was about as savage as he had ever heard of, and he told her members of the public would be “outraged” at hearing the facts.

Dean Pulling, prosecuting, told the court that on August 19 last year Wheeler and her mother attended Neath Port Talbot Hospital, with the defendant raising concerns about her mental health and “demanding to be sectioned”.

He said Wheeler was seen by a psychiatric nurse and the pair discussed her mental health history and her drug and alcohol intake. The nurse came to the opinion that the defendant was not under the influence of alcohol but there was noted to be a “very strong smell of cannabis”.
