Contractor pledge for M4 work after five years of 50mph limit

But the Welsh Government have now told us the scheme was making “excellent progress”.

Back in 2020, a 50mph speed limit was introduced from M4 motorway junction 45 at Ynysforgan, to junction 46 at Llangyfelach, after Welsh ministers said at the time that traffic needed to be restricted in the area because of the likelihood of danger to the public.

Welsh ministers also said at the time that there was a risk of “serious damage to the road’; due to the structural condition of the safety barrier in the central reservation.

The maximum duration of the order was 18 months, and it was introduced after an operational risk assessment was conducted, following anumber of reported incidents along the area.
