More flu patients were being treated in hospitals in South Tyneside and Sunderland, new figures show.
The number of flu patients being treated in hospitals is on the increase
The most recent NHS winter situation report shows an average of 53 patients were being treated every day for the virus by staff at the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - which runs South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The figure, for the week to December 15, was up from 35 the week before - and two patients were in critical care.
