Council workers across South Tyneside are facing rising levels of abuse, with nearly 1,800 incidents reported over the past three years.

The figures, revealed by Legal Expert, highlight a disturbing trend across six North East councils, which collectively logged 5,266 cases of aggression or assault against staff.
South Tyneside Council saw 955 assaults with 369 injuries, contributing to the region-wide average of five attacks per day.
