A NEW TV series highlights fascinating restoration work to preserve items of great historic interest that takes place every day in Sevenoaks.

The BBC’s Hidden Treasures of the National Trust returned to our screens last week.

The series spotlights the meticulous work carried out at Knole's Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio, restoring the charity's objects from across the country. It will also highlight work on objects from Knole’s own collection.

Episode two, tomorrow (Friday), delves into Knole’s rich history through the restoration of two remarkable pieces which will be on temporary display at the 600-year-old estate for visitors from June 2.

The Sackville pedigree scrolls are elaborate family trees created more than 400 years ago. When they were new, these almost seven-metre-long rolls of parchment would have been vibrant works of art filled with text and illustration in brightly coloured ink, gold and silver.
