DfT £25.6m boost to fund active travel

KENT County Council has secured a significant long-term funding settlement from the Department for Transport (DfT) and Active Travel England, totalling over £25.6 million across four years, to boost walking, cycling, and wheeling infrastructure across the county.

The council say the investment will help to plan and deliver major improvements aimed at making active travel safer, easier, and more attractive, encouraging residents to leave their cars at home for short journeys.

The funding breakdown includes:

■£5.2 million per year in capital funding for four years (2026/27 to 2029/30).
