Unite boss took private flights from builders of union's hotel

McCluskey 'overruled' contract fears

FORMER Unite boss Len McCluskey took private flights and football tickets arranged by the firm building a multi-million pound hotel for the union, an internal report has said.

Flanagan Group, run by friends of Mr McCluskey, 74, overcharged Unite by at least £30million for the Birmingham hotel and conference centre project, the report said.

It also claimed Mr McCluskey “overruled” advice from staff and Unite lawyers in signing the building contract.

As well as a venue for its meetings, the project was intended as a financial investment from which union members could profit.
