Strivers betrayed by the Budget for Benefit Street

RACHEL Reeves’s decision to ramp up taxes to pay for welfare hikes is a complete betrayal of everything she promised voters.

The country was hesitant about giving the Labour Party a chance at the general election, so its landslide was secured on a low proportion of the vote.

Yesterday’s Budget showed why the electorate was right to be sceptical.

Despite all of the promises, Labour did what it always does — put up taxes.

Reeves insisted during the election campaign that she would grow the economy to pay for any extra spending, and said working people would be protected.

Last year she raided businesses and family farms to fund her spending spree but promised that was it, she would not be back for more.

This time she has frozen income tax thresholds, a stealth tax raid on working people that Reeves said only last year would “hurt working people”.
