Scots cops primed for Trump's power 'play'

The President of the United States is expected to spend several days here ahead of a full State visit to the UK in the autumn where he will meet King Charles.

Yesterday, Police Scotland said they would have to put a “significant operation” in place for the trip.

Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond said: “Planning is under way for a potential visit to Scotland later this month by the President of the United States.

“While official confirmation has not yet been made, it is important that we prepare in advance.”

It is expected that the President will visit the new golf course at his luxury Aberdeenshire hotel, the Trump International Golf Links on the Menie Estate at Balmedie.

There, he will inspect and probably play the 18-hole links MacLeod Course — which is named after his mother Mary, born on Lewis.

It has been claimed that 5,000 officers will have to be on duty for the duration of the trip, each working 12-hour shifts.

As with other high-profile events such as COP26 in Glasgow, it is expected that all police leave will be cancelled while he is here.

The trip will be a private one and as yet, no specific dates or details of where he will visit have been announced.
