Save our sofas... retirees battle to bring back their comfort zone

RESIDENTS of a retirement complex are fighting to save their sofas — after they were removed by staff citing health and safety rules.

Tenants at the complex in Hopehill Road, Glasgow, say they have had their independence taken away following the removal of couches from a common room.

They received a letter stating that all personally owned items of furniture must be removed from the shared room at the property.

Otherwise, items would be removed by staff of the Queen’s Cross Housing Association (QCHA), which runs the independent-living facility in North Woodside.

A number of residents had been gathering regularly in the common room to socialise, play games, and watch movies. However, some felt that the furniture provided by QCHA was uncomfortable to sit on for extended periods of time.

So, they sourced soft furnishings to allow everyone to comfortably enjoy the space.
