RANGERS chiefs are standing by beleaguered boss Russell Martin - despite another weekend of furious fan protests at Ibrox.

RUSS JOB IS SAFE... FOR NOW

Martin saw his side lose 2-0 to Hearts on Saturday, extending their nightmare start to the Premiership season to five games without a win.

That proved the final straw for thousands, who loudly chanted for the former Southampton gaffer to go throughout the defeat.

But, despite having got off to the club's worst start in 47 years, with Gers now 10th in the table, Express Sport understands Ibrox boss Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe are standing by the 39-year-old, below.

Neither American was at Ibrox to see the scenes of anger, while CEO Patrick Stewart was also absent as he dealt with a family matter.

But sporting director Kevin Thelwell was present and is believed to have updated Cavenagh and partners 49ers Enterprises on the situation.

But, for now, Martin retains the support of the club's owners and will be in the dugout for next Saturday evening's Premier Sports Cup quarterfinal at home to Hibs.
