Rowling in war chest to aid women's legal fights

JK ROWLING has set up a war chest for women wanting to take legal action to fight for their sex-based rights.

The Harry Potter author had already pledged to bankroll cases relating to gender issues, such as female prisoners being housed with biological males.

A key voice in the gender debate, the Edinburgh-based writer actually set up the fighting fund last year.

Rowling has an estimated net worth of £945million and is the 168th richest person in the UK.

The fund is open to women who have lost or are facing the prospect of losing their jobs because they have argued for sex-based rights.

Among those to have found themselves in that position is Fife nurse Sandie Peggie who is battling the health board after she was forced to share a changing room with a biologically male doctor.
