Preparations ramping up for Europe’s USA crunch

- By Craig Swan

PAUL McGINLEY feels Europe will never be more ready for an away Ryder Cup assault.

The captain of the 2014 winning team at Gleneagles remains a key member of the setup having been named as strategic adviser to Luke Donald’s side for New York.

Meticulous planning is going into the Bethpage bid, with key meetings and schedules being plotted out ahead of the showdown with the Americans on September 26-28.

Donald’s entire team with the exception of Sepp Straka will play this week at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in the final tournament outing before the big one.

Europe’s stars will then jet across the Atlantic to practise at the course to further boost their background checks.

Each step has been mapped out and McGinley feels the squad will be in peak shape come tee-off time.

The 58-year-old Irishman, below, said: “It’s going to be a busy few weeks because 11 of the 12 players are going to be playing Wentworth.

“Luke is going to gather them for a few meetings and stuff like that. There’s going to be a buzz around that.
