RANGERS Football Club have described the torching of a statue of legendary manager Walter Smith as “shameful behaviour”.

The attack occurred outside Ibrox and was filmed by the perpetrators, with footage of the incident subsequently posted online.

The alarm was raised at around 1am yesterday and an investigation into the circumstances is under way, while work has begun to restore the tribute to its former glory.

The statue stands on the east corner of the stadium near New Edmiston House and shows Smith with arms raised aloft.
