Police warn football fans as thousands set to gather

POLICE Scotland say they are well prepared ahead of a potential powderkeg as rival groups gather in central Glasgow tomorrow.

Thousands of Celtic fans are expected to descend on the Merchant City and the Trongate areas to celebrate their team lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy.

Meanwhile, around 2,500 people are set to take part in an Orange Order parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Celtic's final league match of the season against St Mirren is set to kick off at 12.30pm at Celtic Park.

The VE Day march, organised by the County Grand Lodge of Glasgow, will commence from Wishart Street behind Glasgow Cathedral at 9.45am.

It was granted approval by the city council several weeks ago, long before Celtic wrapped up the title.
