One in six Scots have seen shop staff being abused

ONE in six people in Scotland have witnessed verbal or physical abuse of shop staff in the last year, according to a new survey.

The figure (17%) equates to more than 900,000 people who witnessed abuse, including racial or sexual abuse, physical assault or threats with weapons.

Data from the latest BRC-Opinium survey by the Scottish Retail Consortium also shows 19% of customers have witnessed shoplifting in the last 12 months.
