Mike Ward previews tonight's TV

WOULD you like to hear a few fascinating facts about your brain? Of course you would! So you'll be thrilled to know you've come to the right place.

Not because I have a lifetime of expertise on the subject, but because, having watched the first episode of SECRETS OFTHE BRAIN (9pm, BBC2), I have about 10 minutes' worth, which is plenty for now.

The programme lasts a whole hour, and there's a second bit next week, but if you were to ask me to sum up the bulk of what it tells us, I fear I'd struggle. It's fascinating and absorbing, don’t get me wrong, and you do feel as though its presenter, Jim Al-Khalili, a professor of theoretical physics, is doing his best to make the subject accessible.
