Net zero will soon cost us the earth

REACHING the SNP's net zero target by 2045 will cost Scots £750million a year, with a major roll-out of electric cars and heat pumps.

Independent experts from the Climate Change Committee (CCC) told Holyrood ministers that hitting the target will require “immediate action at pace and scale”.

The said the country needs to see a “rapid increase” in the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads while the installation of heat pumps must also “accelerate rapidly”.

Scottish Conservative MSP Douglas Lumsden said: “This report confirms the jaw-dropping costs that will have to be incurred if the SNP are to have any hope of hitting their net zero ambitions.
