Walkers asked to look out for rocks

HILLWALKERS are being asked to look out for something a bit different when they head out this weekend — meteorite fragments that landed in the Highlands.

In the early hours of Thursday, July 3, the burning light of an exploding meteor was seen by thousands in Scotland as it shot across the sky.

Now researchers from the UK Fireball Alliance that monitor and track meteorites as they enter Britain's airspace have identified a 12-mile area near Dalwhinnie where rock fragments are likely to have landed.
