McQueen inquest to probe football link with dementia

Scotland legend’s family welcome inquiry into his death

AN INQUEST is to be held into the death of Scotland great Gordon McQueen next month to determine if heading footballs contributed to his dementia.

The former Manchester United and Leeds defender died aged 70 in June 2023 following a battle with vascular dementia.

A coroner has ordered an inquest into his death following the results of a postmortem to probe whether there is a link between his illness and football.

The hearing was postponed earlier this year because former Scotland international McQueen’s medical records between 1972 and 1995 could not be found.

However it has now been confirmed it will be held over three days starting on January 6 at Northallerton Coroner’s Court in North Yorkshire.
