Lifeboat crew abused after village smear campaign

A LIFEBOAT crew have told lawyers to crack down on allegations made by an anonymous Facebook page spreading “unsubstantiated” claims.

Members of Hemsby Lifeboat, in Norfolk, have been accused of sexual misbehaviour and crimes including selling stolen goods — all without evidence. The team deny the allegations made on anonymously run Facebook page “Hemsby Eyes”. However, the claims have led to the crew being abused in the street and harmed fund-raising efforts.

The group suspect the page is part of a smear campaign by people who wrongly blame the lifeboat for worsening coastal erosion in the village.
