King calls for 'just and lasting peace' as Ukraine marks its independence

THE King has sent a message of support to Ukraine to mark the war-torn country’s independence day.

Charles called for a fair and enduring settlement to end the bloody conflict triggered by Russia’s 2022 full invasion of its neighbour.

The King’s message, shared on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said: "I keep feeling the greatest and deepest admiration for the unbreakable courage and spirit of the Ukrainian people.

"I remain hopeful that our countries will be able to further work closely together to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine."
