Wait till flying Frenchman really takes off - Aarons

- By Fraser Wilson

MAX AARONS glanced over at the away bench where he saw Djeidi Gassama preparing to launch into action — and was just glad he wasn’t the man having to stop the flying Frenchman.

Rangers’ summer signing rubber-stamped his instant hero status against Panathinaikos in Athens with a lightning quick strike just moments after entering the fray — exactly as he’d done in the first leg at Ibrox.

It took the wind right out the Greeks’ sails, coming just five minutes after they had forced themselves back into the tie.

And fellow new boy Aarons reckons the winger’s performances will already be striking fear into opposition fullbacks after his back-to-back supersub shows.

Rangers haven’t been short on rapid wide men in recent years with Rabbi Matondo and Fashion Sakala among those blazing a trail on the flanks.

But nobody has had the end product Gassama has shown with his two stunning strikes so far since his £2.5million move from Sheffield Wednesday.

Aarons, who had years of Premier League experience with Norwich City and Bournemouth, is just glad he only has to face the 21-year-old in training.

But worryingly for opposition defenders, he reckons he’s still to hit top gear.
