Footballer's 10-hour wait for help ‘disgraceful'

JOHN Swinney's handling of the NHS has been condemned after a “disgraceful” incident on a football pitch.

On Saturday, Queens Park defender Charlie Fox suffered a serious knee injury as his team faced Partick Thistle at Firhill Stadium.

He was attended to by medics on the pitch, before being taken off on a stretcher to wait for an ambulance. However, the footballer was left waiting 10 hours for help as the paramedics didn't arrive until l am.

The First Minister yesterday announced a £25.5million funding package to improve NHS waiting times, although it has already been rubbished by doctors.

Saturday's incident is not isolated. In September, Brooke Paterson, 19, had to wait five hours for an ambulance after a double leg break playing for Linlithgow Rose Ladies.
