First Minister 'has head in the sand' over scale of hotel crisis

THE Scottish Tories will today launch a bid to close down Scotland's asylum hotels as John Swinney was warned he was in "denial" over the crisis.

The party will use its Wednesday business slot to push for an end to the SNP's "open door attitude" towards illegal immigration and warn that migrants going to the front of accommodation queues will "cause resentment" in Glasgow, where almost nine in 10 asylum seekers in Scotland are housed.

Scottish Conservative local government spokesman Craig Hoy has put forward a motion asking Holyrood to acknowledge "that the number of asylum seekers accommodated in Scotland's local authority areas is becoming financially unsustainable".

He will also concede the Tories are partly to blame for the crisis as it was under a Conservative government the use of migrant hotels increased.
