THE Princess of Wales received unusual gifts at the Buckingham Palace Garden Party yesterday — a pickled onion and lemon pie.

- By Emily Ferguson Royal Editor

They were presented to Kate and husband William in the form of Jellycat soft toys by the family of teenage photographer Liz Hatton, who died from cancer.

The 17-year-old used to give them to people who made her happy.

Kate and William spent time chatting with Liz’s mum Vicky Robayna, stepfather Aaron Robayna Thompson and younger brother, Mateo, aged nine.

The Princess spoke warmly of her courage, saying: "Her passion for photography and her bravery in the face of such challenges inspired us both deeply."

The royal couple had met the teenager in October 2024 at Windsor Castle, when Liz, who had been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, fulfilled her dream of photographing the Prince of Wales at an investiture as part of her “bucket list”.

The Princess, who is in remission from cancer, was deeply moved by her story and issued a message after the youngster died just weeks after their meeting, describing her as “a brave and humble young woman”.
